Meet Brad – Sales & Research and Development

Today we’re shining the spotlight on someone whose passion for plants runs deep – literally. Meet Brad Akers, our Sales & Research and Development expert here at Akers of Lawn. Brad’s not just passionate about lawns and landscaping – he’s on a mission to create healthier, more sustainable outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Let’s dig into what makes Brad such an important part of the Akers team.

A Bit About Brad

Brad is currently halfway through his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, majoring in Plant Production. He kicked off his studies in 2020 and is tracking to complete the program by the end of 2029. But his education doesn’t stop there – he also holds a Diploma in Horticulture and a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment, with the goal of mentoring the future generations of landscapers right here at Akers.

Brad’s Passion for Landscaping

If you ask Brad what lights him up most about landscaping, the answer is simple: soil and worms. He’s fascinated by the natural, organic processes beneath our feet – especially the role of mycorrhizal fungi and how they benefit soil health.

His long-term vision? To discover a fully sustainable and regenerative approach to improving turf, gardens, and soils. With a deep interest in carbon sequestration, Brad is committed to finding ways that our industry can give back to the planet while still creating beautiful spaces.

 

What Brad Loves Most About His Role

For Brad, it’s all about connection – between the land and the people who enjoy it. He’s passionate about helping clients fall in love with their outdoor spaces, and he’s proud to be part of a team that makes a real difference in people’s lives.

“I love catching up with clients that we have been able to make a real difference in their lives” says Brad, son of founders and directors Jacqi and Dal. “They truly love our story, and what we do.”

Life Outside of Work

Brad is a proud dad of three: Connor, who’s studying psychology with honours; Che-Leigh, a talented musician; and Charlize, who’s studying for her diploma in childcare. Clearly, a love of learning and creativity runs strong in the Akers family!

When he’s not at work, Brad enjoys gardening, staying active, watching the footy with a cold beer, and tucking into a perfect porterhouse steak. Add in some family time, a good movie, and tunes from The Teskey Brothers, and you’ve got his idea of a perfect day.
